Ringsted and Ringsted
Ringsted, Iowa, incorporated April 6, 1899, is located in Denmark Township in the southeast corner of Emmet County. About 380 miles west of Chicago and 80 miles south of Minneapolis a small and very friendly town with four hundred eighty-one residents can be found on the map. Ringsted's welcome sign repeats "Small Town with Big Ideas". And talking of big ideas, the many activities and events during the Centennial on August 13, 14, & 15, 1999 surely demonstrates the big ideas coming out of this place. Ringsted, Denmark, back in the year 1170 the city of King Valdemar's coronation, is right in the heart of Sjaelland, 40 miles west of Copenhagen. Almost 30.000 people - also friendly - live in the area. Ringsted offers a number of attractions as for instance The Sankt Bendts Church - the first church in Scandinavia build of bricks, The Fantasy World - The Fairytale Land and home of Santa, The Tramway Museum - the only place in Denmark offering a ride in an old genuine tram bus. Back to the Centennial! Among some of the many activities you will find "The Little Mermaid" Performance by the local Children's Theater, Centennial Auction, The Ringstedkoret of Denmark Performance, The Beautiful Centennial Parade, Historical Pageant, and of course a lot of music, shows and entertainment on the Centennial Stage.
